Frequently Asked Questions

How is coaching different from therapy?

Therapy often focuses on healing the past and treating clinical concerns; my coaching is forward-looking and decision-oriented, built around the choices and transitions in front of you. The work is psychology-informed, but it is not therapy, and it isn’t a substitute for it. If something calls for clinical support, I’ll say so.

Do I have to work through the framework?

No. By Design and By Circumstance™ is one approach among several, and not every client uses it. Each engagement is personalized; the method follows your needs, not the other way around.

What kinds of issues do you coach on?

Career changes and professional transitions, relationships, life transitions, major decisions, and questions of identity, confidence, and purpose. If you’re facing a consequential moment and want to think it through well, it likely fits.

Will you tell me what to do?

No — and that’s deliberate. I’m outcome-neutral by principle. Whether the right answer is to stay, leave, or begin again, my role is to help you see clearly enough to choose for yourself, not to steer you toward a particular ending.

How long does an engagement last?

It varies. Some clarity arrives quickly; some decisions deserve a longer, steadier process. We’ll discuss what fits your situation in the first conversation, and the engagement is shaped from there.

How do sessions take place?

Sessions are conducted in a private, unhurried setting designed for real reflection. We’ll confirm the format that works best for you when we begin.

What happens in the first consultation?

It’s a relaxed, confidential conversation about your situation, your goals, and whether we’re a good fit. There is no obligation to continue — only the chance to see what working together would feel like.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes. Discretion is fundamental to the practice. What you bring to our conversations stays between us.

How do I begin?

Start with a consultation. It’s the simplest way to find out whether this is right for you.
